Valentines Day Present

Need a last minute Valentines Day Present that is easy and quick to make?  Here is what I made for Jake this year:

What exactly is this you might say?  It is a way for him and I to show each other in writing daily (or as often as we change it) how much we love each other!  I got the inspiration from pinterest.  (of course, where else?)  http://pinterest.com/pin/64246732153886652/

When I originally saw this I knew immediately I wanted to do this!  I just loved the idea.  We have the perfect place in our bedroom right when you walk out of the door that I want to hang it on!  I don't think I will hang ours from a ribbon though...

So how did I make this and how can you get this done quickly for a last minute valentines present?

First I headed to Hobby Lobby:
At first I was planning on doing all the sayings with the black letters, but since it is Valentines time they had scrapbook sayings that said I love you!  So I got one of those because I thought it would give it more definition.  I also grabbed a neutral scrapbook paper that would go with our room.  (Our room has a red and gold theme.)  I already had the frame but you can use any size frame you want to.

So I started with the mat on the frame and the paper behind it and added the I love you saying.  (Now I decided to keep the mat in the frame but like you can see in the picture above you do not have to have this...)

Then I added the 'because' out of the letters.  I just eyeballed the straight line using a ruler.  I think I did pretty good!

Next put it back in the frame.

Next write your message to your loved one by using a dry erase marker on the glass!  (Yes I know I need a new dry erase marker...  )

How simple is that and what a awesome way to tell your special one how much you love them everyday!!!

Jake I hope you love your present!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Until tomorrow!

Valentines Ball

So today I went shopping for my menu for the week and did really well!  $74 and saved over $25!  I'd like to work on getting it down to $50 a week when I go shopping but alas I did pretty well this week!

Today I'm going to tell you about how I made my valentines day ball!

I did a quick run to the dollar store to get some Styrofoam.  I knew that I had seen it there before and I had an idea for a valentines "ball" for an extra decoration.  I was able to find one.  It was slightly bigger than I wanted but it would work.

I did cut it down a little, making it more of a round shape.  I should have made it smaller but I am happy with the way it turned out!

Remember when I made my crepe paper wreath?  I bought some valentines picks thinking I would use them in the wreath, but then I didn't?  If not, you can read it here!  Anyways, here are the things I was left with after I made the wreath:

So first I started out by cutting the sticks on the hearts down, but don't throw away the extra parts, you will use them later!!

Then I made little loops with the ribbon!  Guess where the sticks go?  If you guessed on the loops you are right!!

Then I just stuck the loops and the hearts in the Styrofoam.  Put them as close as you want.  Mine could be closer but from where you sit and look at it you will not see the green between it.  You could also have just gotten white Styrofoam and it wouldn't have mattered but white wasn't available to me...

So here is my "ball" on its shelf.  Just right for the small area I had for it next to my valentines scentsy (last years style)!

After sitting back and looking at it I have moved some of the picks around and it looks fuller now!

Tomorrow I am going to update you on the letters for the Art Wall and the letters for the Bath tiles that I started a long time ago!  LOL  (opps!)

Until Tomorrow!

Wire Hanger Heart Wreath

I did another DIY project with my excess wire hangers that we have in our house!  Back in the 3rd or 4th grade we made Christmas wreaths out of wire hangers and tissue paper.  What I remember about them:

  1. They were easy to make.  Just twist the tissue paper around the wire.
  2. They were a pain in the arse...  Cutting all the tissue paper up took forever.
So as much as I wanted to make a valentine wreath I didn't want to spend forever cutting up tissue paper.  I saw on Pinterest someone made a wreath out of crepe paper!  Genius!  They made it on a foam wreath and pinned it on.  Making little rosettes.  I didn't want to do this.  I wanted to make my original wire hanger wreath.  This is what I did!

This is what I started out with.  A wire hanger, crepe paper from the dollar store (they come in a pack of 2 for $1, what a deal!), some ribbon (also from the dollar store), and some valentine picks.  I thought I would have to use the picks to decorate the wreath...

Step 1:  Make the wire hanger into the shape of a heart.  I also folded the hook over to make a loop.  This way I can hang it and make it look a little nicer.

Step 2:  Cut a bunch of smaller strips of the crepe paper.  I am not sure how many I cut.  I used red and pink.  Jake wanted a multi colored wreath.  I used almost a whole roll of each color.  I wanted a very poofy wreath.

Step 3:  Fold the paper in half over the wire.

Step 4:  Twist the paper a few times.

Step 5:  I did 2 red and 2 pinks.  Keep twisting and bunching them.

Step 6:  (Not pictured) When the wreath is complete wrap the loop with the ribbon to cover the wire.

Step 7:  Hang your wreath.  I was going to add the valentine picks but I don't think I need to.  The heart shape held up well.  I really love the way it turned out.

I didn't measure the strips.  They are all varying sizes.  If you want to take the time to measure each one be my guest.  I don't have that kind of time.  I like the crepe paper because you can squeeze it to make it smaller or spread it apart to make it bigger.  You can fix spots that need to be fixed.

This only took me a night.  I was sitting in front of the tv doing this.  I think I am going to make another one tonight.  I might put it in my dining room since there isn't any decorations in there.

Since I didn't use the valentines picks I have another idea in my head that I want to do with them.  I'm thinking a topiary or something like that!  We will see!

Until Tomorrow!
